International consultants Ove Arup are leading a consortium advising the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Authority on the engineering, environmental, legal, financial and property issues relating to the construction of a second Tyne vehicle tunnel. The project will have a major impact on communities at the north and south ends of the proposed tunnel. Around 50 properties will have to be demolished during construction.

1. Media Relations 2. Newsletters. 3. Website 4. Dealing with the community

1. Bradley OMahoney Public Relations was appointed in November 1999 to communicate with communities affected by the construction and operation of the proposed new tunnel. We immediately established good links with local newspapers, particularly in South Tyneside to ensure balanced coverage of issues such as alleged blight. We also identified the economic benefits of the tunnel as the primary source of 'good news' stories to balance potential negatives.
2. Fulfilling the PTAs commitment to keeping local communities informed, Bradley OMahoney produced a series of newsletters for distribution to thousands of residents and motorists.
3. Bradley OMahoney was a key partner in building a website to keep interested parties informed about the project. It will in time be used to communicate with consortia interested in bidding to build and operate the new tunnel.
4. Our consultants regularly attend meetings with residents associations, environmental groups, local council officers and local MPs.
